Default 2000 X1 Lightning - Keep or parts,, will see,,,

I purchased a 2000 X1 with some bottom end noise, PO had taken her apart and was deployed to Afghanistan. Came home and is leaving the area and did not want to tote her from here in NY to Oregon,, so,,, got a project here to go with my street XB12R

At this time,, I am not sure if she will be put back or if the costs to get the engine up to snuff are too much,, Ima will have some parts avaiable! LOL

So first up are the heads, piston tops and jug shots

Front head, one exhaust stud has been reamed off center when I check with my Jims Tool, left motor mount hole has broken bolt but has not been butchered. Cylinder bores show a lotta slapping,, think they are in need of attention even without pulling out the micrometer.

Front Head Casting #

Combustion Chamber, Piston & Jug

Rear Head has been overdrilled on one exhaust stud,, really beyond helicoil repair,,, will need some help of this one,,

I say good on you for getting this away from the PO. What a butcher he was!!! We can only hope he gets to Oregon and doesn't buy another bike to destroy.

Gracias!

PO bought the bike from CL, the busted bolts and bad repairs were done before he got her she ran fine for a year, he was on a tour with his wife in PEI Canada, she rides too, he heard a strange sound, shut her down and rode two up on her Honda to a Stealership, this was in Canada,,,

Stealership picked up the bike listened, diagnosed crankpin problems, pulled pushrods, drained oil and disabled the bike,,, taped over fuel tank cover and instruments with warning not to start.

He picked up the bike in a pickup and took it home to possibly repair, started taking her apart and then got his orders for a one year deployment to Afghanistan. While he was deployed, his wife moved and the bike got put in the back corner of their new rental, when he returned to the states, he was offered schooling for Helo pilot and jumped at the chance, rather than tote it, he put her up for local sale and I bought it,,,,

He is one of the good guys with a lot of things on his plate. He phones me about what I found in the motor and progress on bringing her back, he loved the bike!

With the obvious faults evidenced do a complete tear down and thoroughly check it out. Could very well be worth the investment if you bought it right to begin with.

I responded to your PM. What is the crank doing? if you pull straight up and down on the rods do you feel movement or is it just side to side? I have seen too many times where folks are told their crank is bad and really their is nothing wrong with it.

About .125 up and down, outer bearings intact, have not split the cases yet.

Thanks for the reply!

Ah Canada, know it well. My buddy owns the dealership there. Sounds like he treated him right. The previous previous owner was the culprit.

Good morning!

Had a really nice talk with Dan last night,, NRHS is going to assist me in this motor!

Plans are to have heads cleaned, welded to repair stud fubar, examined for seat/ guide condition,, probable added work,,, thinking here about some port work... woke up from a CNC dream....

1250 kit rather than bore, hone and size rings... I like the idea!

And,,, thanks to the saving graces of Dan,,, he has a crank!

Now to get me a heavy box and get the heads shipped!

Thanks again Dan!

Wife gave me a budget of $1500 total to bring her up to snuff, I am also working on two Firebolts so there are budgetary considerations, especially with some of the parts left for my Lucille to make her what I want.

Unfortunately after machine work, insolator bushings, gaskets etc we would be over the agreed limit.

So just got off the phone with Dan, will send my Thunderstorm heads out to be done, and they can wait for an M2 that I have in my sights.

All the other parts will be made available to Tuber owners on BW and Fleabay

I will put up one of my two Firebolts as a Buell project here,, seem to be lacking,, lol

And how about a 66 XLCH,,,,, although I see many of them,,, lol
