Default Pre 2004 Sportster Rear Foot Pegs

Before I thread a coarse screw into them and yank them out with a slide hammer does anyone have a trick method to remove the black plastic plugs in a Sportster swingarm that won't destroy the plugs and/or scratch the swingarm paint?
I'm installing rear pegs on my 2002 XLH.

You might try spraying some WD40 on them.

They have a philips-head?

You might try using and easy-out reverse twist thread tool.

It depends how cleaning they went in as to how easy they may come out.
