Default Power Vision-The Good, The Bad, and The Oh Well

Well my Power Vision came today. We'll do this in the order from opening the box to final thoughts.

Opened box 5 out of 5
Everything was nicely packed even though Fuel Moto had removed the unit and installed a tune. They put the packing back together almost to the point that it looked untouched.

Install instructions 3 out of 5
Dynojet tells you where the plug is located under the battery cover. No help on where to route the wire what-so-ever though. That kind of sucks. I even tried online, even youtube was lacking, showing just the plug location. I just wanted a vague idea, but nothing happening.

Installation 4 out of 5
Since I'm only slightly mentally challenged I forged ahead. The plug orientation caused the wire to face towards the rear wheel and turning it to face towards the front would put it in a bind so I went with it. I zip tied it against the rear frame underneath and around the oil bag. I then removed the fuel tank to get a better look at what I was dealing with.

I then routed it over the battery and underneath the backbone securing it with a second zip tie just ahead of attachment bolt at the rear of the tank. I routed it to the other side of the bike attaching another zip tie to 1 of the loops holding the throttle wires against the backbone.

I replaced the tank and finished running the wire to the throttle side of the bars. The PV mount went on the same side. The wire was ran in between the blinker wire and blinker stalk and secured to the wiring on the handlebar with another wire tie. The wire was as close to the perfect length as it could be routing it this way.

It took about an hour and a half but I did take my time checking for pinch points. Someone that knows the Sporty a little better would be a lot faster I'm sure.

Attaching the PV unit 3 out of 5
This low score is for the missing or mismatched parts. The quick release plate was wrong, the screws didn't match up with the handlebar mount plate. So I had to hard attach the unit. I considered drilling the mount plate but decided against it as they will probably send me the right quick release mount plate.

Initial tune loading 5 out of 5
I kept getting an error saying the ECU wasn't connecting even though the key was all the way forward. I freaked out for a couple of minutes until I realized I hadn't flipped the run switch on. After that it was easy. I found the tune that Fuel Moto had pre-loaded and flashed it to my ECU. I noticed that part of the description said 883N but chalked it up to the tune being for another bike with an 883 to 1200 upgrade.

1st ride with new tune 2 out of 5
When first started (cold engine) the engine seemed to be running OK. A mile up the rode (warmed up) it was a different story. It fell on it's face. A chugging, spitting, popping mess. I got it pulled into the nearest place I could stop(I live in the boonies), the "local" gas station. It was a short 1st ride of 3 miles. Fuel Moto must have loaded a tune for an 883, even though I told them that it had been converted to a 1200.

2nd-ish ride 5 out of 5
I reflashed the ECU to my original tune and turned on the autotune at the gas station while refueling. It ran better but not as good in autotune as the original tune. I'd read that was to be expected in autotune. It was getting late and I was only able to put 47 miles on it before I had to turn around. I stopped and flashed the new autotune to the ECU and started home. The autotune worked great! I'm not totally sure, but I don't remember hearing any decel pop! I'll find out for sure my next ride.

Ease of use 5 out of 5
It really is easy to use. It leads you where you need to go. So far it couldn't have been easier to use.

Programming and available settings 5 out of 5
It had a lot of programming and settings that I didn't know about. Rev limit adjustments, engine temp, speed sensor, etc. I'm impressed.

So, what's the final score?
37 out of 45
I'm kind of a hard ass, 82% is pretty good grade from me. I'll take the blame for my faults, but Fuel Moto and Dynojet have some fault too.

Mine- Not being more familiar with my bike. It might not had taken me so long to get the install done.

Fuel Moto- Wrong tune. Price and shipping were great though, I'd still recommend them. $399.99 for the PV for my Sporty! That's the same price as the V&H FP3! Maybe I can get a better tune from them?

Dynojet- One wrong mount. Kind of sucks but other than that it's a great product and worked as advertised.

I had a Vance & Hines Tuner on my last Sporty but the PV blows it away. When these guys recommend it over the others, listen! It really is worth it! I'll try to upload some pics in this thread as soon as I can.

Nice review.
With the tunes, try loading the different tunes to your computer, save them. Open the auto tune and open the FM tune as a compare. See were the differences are.
