You know on the truing stand, I'm mostly interested in what you used for the side supports, but after looking at the pic again, it looks like short car motor rods would work?

I'm home now so I can get you dimensions if you want. The base is just c channel (I used two pieces of 2" channel just because I had it extra and it was easier than ordering 4" channel).

The uprights are Ford 302 conrods. They're about 5" high or so. Drill and tap a hole in each one for a set screw to hold down the inserts. The inserts themselves are W1 machineable tool rod from McMaster. One of the pricier parts of the jig, but they are .906" OD and fit nice and sweet in the 302" rods. No need to machine the OD as it's only slightly loose fit (the ford wristpins were .912" with a press fit). I just ground/machined down the end to a point for holding the shafts.

The only thing I would do differently is make it slightly wider center distance between the rods. Maybe an extra 1"-2" or so would be great. The whole jig was based off something I found here on XLF, I think it might have been Hopper who made one like it? I can't remember exactly.

I did. haha Center punch staked them over really well. Can't remember how many exactly, but it was like 6-8 or so. Same way I stake over AR-15 castle nuts, just a little harder material.

The picture might not show it because of resolution, or I just took the pic before doing it.

Here are some pics of a flywheel truing stand we made years ago and I just found it lurking in my dad's shed. It is made from a piece of 4" steel channel as a base.
Two automobile connecting rods are then bolted to holes drilled in it at the right distance apart to suit whatever flywheels are being worked on.

A threaded insert was machined up so a half-inch or so bolt could be threaded threaded through, with locknuts to hold it in position.

The ends of the bolts are machined to a point same as a lathe centre (cant remember offhand now if that is 60 or 90 degrees. 60 I think.)

Magnetic dial gauge is stuck to the base to suit job in hand.

This rig has been used to do countless numbers of 45 Flathead bottom ends, J models and big Brit singles like the Matchless wheels in the pic.

The alignment of the two centre bolts is not super critical - they just provide the two points, the flywheels and shafts the straight line between them.

Thanks for posting the original source, doodah! That's exactly what I used to base mine off of. Just a little modified as to what parts I used and the setup.

Thank you for taking the time to write this up and the kind offer to send set screws. I'm gonna wait till winter to come up with a similar jig.
