Interesting to find this thread, the 1980 hardtail Ironhead I just bought has what appears to be a dirt bike front wheel, thought I cannot tell you from what. Steel rim, which leads me to believe it is off of something older. Eh, time will tell. I’ll have to go count the spokes in the morning.

im running a xl 250 front 21" hub brake wheel. it was on the bike when i bought it and i havent ridden a lot on it. feels quite substantial though and with the 16" rear it sits quite good and does handle well too

Mines a 40 spoke, steel rim on an aluminum hub. Didn’t look close enough to find any part numbers or info on the hub. Would really like to have a small disc up front just in case.

...lots of British choppers ran the BSA Bantam or Triumph Tiger Cub front hub, back in the 70s and the only real problem was, the brake was effectively useless.

There are some big dirt bikes around, but I take it you are talking about a small drum brake? Why do that? If you want a 21” rim, there are Sportster models which have that. Find one of those, or just build a 21” rim on your existing hub.

Remember that! There was a giant Irishman with red hair down to his ass had a BSA A10 chopper with a Bantam front wheel. He sprayed it Ford purple velvet with gold lace effect, trouble was he used his Mum's best lace doilies! Funniest thing I ever saw was when his Mum found out and laid into him chasing him down the street!
