But mine likes 1100-1200.
Anything below 1050 and my engine doesn't sound healthy.
It's not a big twin and it's not suppose to lope on really low RPM.

Not even on my BT (117 ci S&S) I let her starve for oil.... +- 1000 RPM is what they like. Period.

i got this bit of information a couple years ago and it's been tried and true.

The quote was from Wayne "Speed" Hanson and he was known as the tuner's tuner..

"these buzzsaws like a higher then normal idle, bump that sucker to 1000 to 1100 and you'll be amazed at how much better she likes it"

I settled on about 1050 and my bike has never been happier..

if you're interested in more, his kids have continued on..

I don't let my bikes (any brand) idle for long and set 'em to 1K or more RPM because oil pressure protects parts and shock loading under-oiled bearings is not kind to them.

700-900 is in the older ironhead manuals.
Yet they warn of not going too low for fear of starving bearings.
