So, hi all haven’t posted in a really long time. I’ve had this rattle sound for quite sometime that I could not find. Only makes the sound when cruising along not under a load. Can’t find where it’s coming from so I’ve avoided riding this bike till I figured out the problem. Recently when I start it sounds like I’m running an open primary, which I’m clearly not. So I decided to pull the primary cover and figured maybe clutch bearing has gone bad. Pulled it apart checked clutch bearing and it is fine. I noticed from the crank the crank there was oil dripping out, thought it seemed strange since everything was cleaned up when I took off primary so I didn’t make a mess. Grabbed my phone and turned on flashlight and this is what I saw. WTF!

At least you caught it before it destroyed the engine. I'd remove the top end first in case it's in good enough condition to reuse or sell. That makes pulling the bottom end much easier.

Post pics of the autopsy. You might have gotten lucky and sustained moderate damage.

Of course seal failure wouldn't hose the bearing(s), # 42 below, so the bearing failure is what trashed the seal and produced the knock.

It's a total teardown including oil pump because the crumbs will have gone far and wide. I'd discard the oil hoses and do an thorough job flushing and inspecting (USB borescopes which work with phones and PCs are about 20 bucks online) the oil tank.

It's also a full tear down because that's the only way to change that bearing and race.

There's a similar bearing on the inside, and a spacer between the two of them that sets flywheel end play.

The service manual covers the procedures for changing those bearings and races, and how to measure end play and set it within the desirable .001-.005" range with spacer selection.
