It always makes me scratch my head when new technology is proudly displayed but violating the norms that should be observed... (Running thru the STOP sign)

Maybe I'm just an old codger - but I hate the move in all technology to Big Brother monitoring & the push for control taken away from the user... They are not offering alternatives, but rather replacing stuff without a choice to the user...

It's happening in all kinds of tech - computers, appliances/tv, cars, etc...

The mantra is 'we're helping the user' but the effect (and sometimes the goal) of the help is to increase control and diminish (or eliminate) the previous virtues of self-reliance, accomplished skill & privacy...

Washing machines that report back to the mfr, TVs that spy on your channel preferences, cars that report your usage to your insurance company, phones that track your every movement... No thank you...

I love my '94 XLH for it's straightforward simplicity, reliability, capability & detachment from the MoCo...

Maybe like the Segway, 2 wheel gyro stabilized....... and like back when only people who knew a computer language could operate a computer, it will progress with the gyro being built into new motorcycles in the future until people who could not possible ride a regular 2 wheel motorcycle now, will be buying them with gyro stabilization, until the roads are filled with even more people who don't know how to ride. It is known as progress.

Dear BMW Motorcycles, Why autonomous? You should be developing a Hover Motorcycle instead of something that is already been developed for cars. Make the first "real world" hover speeder like those in the Star Wars movies!

I have really mixed feelings on all this technology.

ABS, traction control, riding modes, all add to safety of a bike. I did a demo ride of a Ducati Multistrada a couple of year ago, the demo route came down a hill and around a corner. Leaned over in the corner and there is water running across the road. I felt the engine power being cut and then re-applied as we got back on dry pavement. It made me a believer in traction control. I've witnessed at accident where a rider locked up their rear tire and lost control. ABS most likely would have saved him. So I'm a fan of the technology.

But, when the computer control starts getting to the point where it steers you around corners I agree with Folkie, Why Bother. At that point you might as well go to an amusement park and just ride the roller coaster.

I've said it before, I'm 54 years old. I don't think my grandkids will need drivers licenses.
