Default '07 nighter/'07 custom question (Increase Fork Travel)

trying to increase length of travel on nightster

1- are the 07 nightster fork sliders the same as 07 custom fork sliders except one is painted black ?
2 - could i put 07 custom dampers (+ring) in nighter lowers and increase the travel ?
3 - or do i need to put the c fork tubes and springs in it with dampers to increase travel ?
yes i read a bunch of the sticky pages and bunch of other pages - it to me appears to be very convoluted.

I installed custom damper rods when I upgraded the stock springs in my Nightster to raise it up some and I believe the fork tubes and lowers are the same length

The SportsterPedia section on front forks has the measurements of the damper tubes listed.

Because the damper tube is attached to the lower leg, the length of the damper tube determines the amount of 'travel' the slider tube has within the lower leg.

Default update, mods please check out

woody9225 is correct for all 07 fork tubes being the same length. i diden't look at other years.
i bought it (07n) used from hd dealer and dealer told me (when i bought it in jan.) their is no cz designation (nightster) listed for 07 parts.
looking at ronnies parts list all the 07 sportster fork tubes are the same for all sportster designations.

cl (low) uses small damper tube and differnt length upper spring. from the way i take is all other parts is the same. (except black paint on lower legs (lower sliders).

their is no cz designation (nightster) listed for '07 parts. i was told its the same as cl designation.

as in whoever does sportsterpedea needs to look at ronnies parts list for '07 then maybe update wiki.
sorry if i've done this wrong, im going to dissassemble that front end in the fall and can up date further.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the 2007 models... I altered the SP listings for that year... But not all slider tubes use the same part number across all models...

The 883L & 1200L/N for 2007 use different sliders (46218-05) than the other models (45395-04) - Also, the springs & the damper tube lengths are different for the 883L & 1200L/N...

On Harley's website you can view the parts manuals for your bike, just need to enter your VIN:

https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....cle/lookupForm

Within the first few pages of the 2007 parts manual (PN 99451-07A), you will find a table with this information:
Quote:
Table 3. VIN Model Codes
CODE/MODEL
CN / XL 883 Sportster® 883
CP / XL 883C Sportster® 883 Custom
CR / XL 883L Sportster®
CS / XL 883R Sportster®
CT / XL 1200C Sportster® 1200 Custom
CV / XL 1200R Sportster® 1200 Roadster
CX / XL 1200L Sportster® 1200 Low
CY / XL 50 50th Anniversary Sportster®
CZ / XL 1200N Sportster® 1200 Nightster
If I had to guess, the confusion is probably because the Nighterster was a mid-year release. The first edition of all the manuals (Parts Manual PN 99451-07) had no reference to the CZ models (as they didn't exist). The later edition manuals (PN 99451-07A) absolutely include the CZ designation.

According to the Parts Manuals for 2007 that I have, the damper parts between the CR (883L) and CZ, are the same part number, 47313-07. Most of the bikes (CN/CP/CS/CT/CV/CY) use the same damper tube, PN 45925-04. The 1200L (CX) uses a different one, as I understand it is shorter that the normal one but longer than the CR/CZ damper.

part numbers are different but both tubes look the same.
same distance from bottom of fork tube to both sides of the ledge that the lower stop bolts to
