Change ECU and TSM & constant backfire
This is my first Post and I write from outside USA.
In my country we haven´t dealer HARLEY and sincerely I need help to solve a problem. I have more than 1 year with this and I'm going crazy.
1 year ago I bought a "SPORTSTER NIGHSTER 08" in an auction and the motorcycle came without ECU and TSM.
I bought (ebay) an ECU and a TSM to different sellers and when installed the motorcycle doesn´t started.
Looking for a solution in this forum, I found that I could jumper the TSM. Eliminate the Turn Signal Module (TSM)
Now the bike starts but has a constant backfire, So is impossible driving.
Is necessary "Initializing the SE ignition Module" for correct start? or in my case this steps doesn't give solution the problem?
I also read in another post that the ECU has to be programmed by a dealer HARLEY, to marry the ECU with TSM?
If this is so, it is okay to buy on ebay a ECU with TSM married? And it would have solved the problem!
Or if anyone knows any other solution for this, I will be grateful for your help.
Thanks,

I would think the stock ECU has a stock ignition curve/fuel management program built in that doesn't erase when disconnected from system. Is your initial timing correct?

What is your location? If you do not have Harley dealers in your country in which country was the bike originally sold into? Third question were the ECU and TSM you purchased definitely for the EFI (electronic ignition) version of the Sportster or could one, the other or both be for the EVO (Carb) motor? If a European bike you need a TSSM not a TSM, the TSSM has an immobiliser built in which may explain why the bike won't start with the TSM in circuit.
Before spending more money I would suggest you share the answers to these questions and any more info you can provide with the good people of XLF, they will find the answer.

Thanks for your answers and thanks BOB_F for the welcome.
I bought the Harley (08 Nightster 1200CC) in an Auctions in MIAMI - USA. next import to Perú.
I couldn´t have bought the ECU carb version, because this ECU is different and has another plug model.
I can assure is that bought a Sportster ECU from 883 (code 32140-08). because I took that as the engine is equal to 1200 and the crank sensor is the same, then thought it would work well, but the engine is as is out of time.
The TSM, I bought of the 2008 Sportster 1200, and is the versión without antenna but, I put a jumper from ground to relay and the engine started, but with backfire.
I hope help me to solve this problem.
Thanks
