Did you raise your fork tubes (i.e. lower your fork braces) for a more level look?

I can’t see the pictures in the first post?

Anyway... I did my time on bikes with clip-ons and rearsets, also the Italian style of clip-ons and mids (the 350 Morini, for one) and I’d say definitely don’t do the Italian one. British bikes with clipons and rearsets are sporty.

I’ve just done something rather different - fitted a 1960s type bench seat. The extra 2” or so of legroom make a big difference, and the bike is no taller than later British bikes like the Norton Commando or OIF Triumph and BSA.

If I was fitting rearsets, I’d look at the low rearsets offered by some suppliers. The Sportster is badly short of legroom, doesn’t have any real ground clearance issues (assuming you haven’t done anything stupid with the forks and dampers). None of its standard tank options give you any sort of grip with your knees and the rear head is intrusive.

IMHO, the original 1957-71 or so Sportster is by far the best riding position and general set-up of all Sportsters, mostly because it was designed as a direct challenge to the British Bikes of the time, and was used as a competition bike in its own right. Start from that and work away ...
