Circuit breakers and fuses are installed and sized to protect the wiring from melting, overheating, and causing a fire if there's a short. You want the breaker to trip before any damage happens.

I personally would follow Cycle Electric's recommendation and use the 20-amp circuit breaker. And I'd use a wire in that circuit that can safely handle at least 20 amps of current. There are charts online showing how many amps of DC current different sizes of wire can handle.
