Yes.In terms of providing any real "locking" they're next to useless. If you want a nut to stay put use a Nylok or Loctite.

Look at his pics. The head length works out just fine without an un-necessary spacer on the right side. Shoulder against the inner bearing race is a perfectly acceptable arrangement.

I was always taught that you replace these everytime you take them off, but you know how that goes. They worked OK before the Nylok came along.

Lotsa vibration testing results out there if you want to look. Spring type lock washers have never been more than marginally better just a plain washer.
