There's no way I blow as hard as I did and as freely as I did thru that little hole and have it come out the other side with the force it did. I don't have stock bolts with the tiny holes. When I blow that hard it's going right to the umbrellas. No way that little hole bleeds it off. If it does, then it's part of the problem because everything got a lot better without them.
If that little hole let's that kind of air in what would be the purpose of even having umbrella valves. Let it breath freely in and out. Go ahead and try that once cuz it's been tried already.

The harder you blow, the more restriction of air flow you feel.
The drain hole is not big enough to allow full flow air pressure through it on purpose.
Widen the hole and you can blow easier thru it.
When you blow hard thru the vent, you are closing the umbrella, but not the drain hole.
Same thing as a leak down test.
You will lose air but the restrictions (hopefully) thru the rings will hold more air than is lost.

Honestly, it's much more than I'd care to rehash here.
But, in a nutshell, they did harness CC pressure in the interest of better oil scavenging.
You can read that link or from the Sportsterpedia links I gave earlier.
But I think this thread is more for A/C mods.
And I'll leave it there.

edit:
I re-read this post and realized I sounded harsh.
I hope you understand but I've been trailing this subject for quite a while and it is very complicated.
An easy answer there is not.

Some don't think the EPAs tightening emissions standards have anything to do with the move to the rocker boxes/heads and think it's the best place to vent for other reasons that I can't fathom. Common sense says the higher temps would wreak havoc on the rubber umbrellas and cheap plastic housings used in the later models, causing them to warp. Not to mention the cam chest is closer to the source of the fluctuating pressure.
If the stock setup were better, I wonder why of all the people that have moved to the cam chest with a better working valve, not 1 has ever gone back to the stock setup for any reason. None I'm aware of anyway.
