Looks like they only go back to 1991.

Edit: 1986, actually.

The special characters for bolding broke the link. Fixed now.

My test VIN got nothing (tried that last night). and if it had would not get other manuals from different machines for reference.
Walking the directory nets many parts catalogs.

I avoid dealers but next time I get the chance I'll visit the parts counter and ask about earlier models. One or two number strings should get close enough if earlier manuals are in the same parent directory.

Just putting 'Sportster' in the search box returns every Sportster document.

Click on 'Parts Catalogs' on the left to get the 58 parts manuals available. The earliest is the '1986- 1990 XLH Models Parts Catalog'.

Thanks!

Now to expand my library (and add more parts catalogs as .pdfs on my phone for use at swap meets).

EDIT:
If you want to save images from sites where the right-click menu is disabled both Chrome and Firefox have a variety of add-ons which restore your right click options.
Images cannot be locked so page designers use the lazy solution of disabling the users right-click menu. Of course you could screenshot an image but if it's cropped you'll miss some of it. If you download the image you can print for reference then use it as a checklist when ordering parts.

https://shop.outpostalaska.com/OEMpartfinder.htm do NOT block image downloads and also have Polaris, Victory and Honda listings.
