So ya, come to find out. My jugs were already cross hatched and ready to go from the manufacturer. The rings, I'm still waiting on to be shipped from New York, are a warranty swap due to gap to "large" to begin with.
So I'm figuring the original problem(s) must have been valve leakage and/or timing off. So when I set my cams timing, should it be TDC or off TDC? I believe I know it should be on the compression stroke. Any tips or tricks to make it easy while I put everything back together?

So I got my jugs and rings and such back from the machine shop. Rings are gapped right now, and cylinders re-cross hatched. Getting it back together, cam timing is set. But I'm having problems finding a decent valve spring compresion tool. The universal tool from the auto store sucks ass, ended up chipping my head cause it woundnt hold the spring. I need the c-clamp style one, and I can't find one locally. I'm about to take my heads to the machine shop as well, I can't seem to get them lapped very well. There are a few pits, I may as well replace the valves.

So how'd u make out. Going with bigger valves since you have to machine the seats would be the way to go.

I was able to find a (loaner) compression tool, and able to get my valves lapped enough to not leak anymore. Got it all put back together again. And guess what. Same problem I had after the first rebuild. So problem not solved. So now I'll check fuel delivery and clutch.

I know it's your bike - and you'll do what you think best - but if it were me, this is how I would proceed:

First - Remove the spark plugs and do a new compression test - Post what the actual compression numbers are for each cylinder - Be sure to lock the throttle fully open and lift the carb slide with your finger while cranking the engine to give the engine full breathing capability...

Second - Be sure your ignition module matches the engine... Look under the seat and get a brand name and part number off the module - post it here and we'll be able to tell whether it's compatible with the 1200 build...

I know you don't want to spend the money --- But you really need to have an ignition module that matches the engine...

And the Third thing you need to do is get the carb to a known base setting - To do that, you need to take the carb off the bike and strip it down... After getting all the parts right & verified, you'll be able to do a proper tune on the bike...

Verify every jet - Check for damage in the idle port - Check your slide diaphragm for tears or holes and be sure the vacuum port has not been drilled out - Check your float needle... Do a thorough job with this... You might want to simply get a rebuild kit...

You mentioned in an earlier post that a friend helped replace the main jet and drilled it even bigger... That's not the right way to go about this...

If you want your ride to function properly and run as well as possible, you really need to do this methodically and pay attention to details - follow the checklist carefully and make sure all your parts are right and working correctly...

I know it's tempting to just jump in and change this or that HOPING that it fixes the problem - but don't do that - you'll end up chasing your tail...
