I'm confused. Two wires go to my coil from a single pickup Dyna S. So this means both fire at the same time. One with valves closed the other with exhaust valve open. So a dual fire would fire only on closed valves alternating cylinders using a split coil. Sounds better to me.

General piece of information, radial engines always have an odd number of cylinders. That prevents any two cylinders being in direct opposition at any moment in time. I was taught that many years ago, but have never tried to prove or disprove it as a fact.

According to Wikipedia:
Four stroke radials have an odd number of cylinders per row, so that a consistent every-other-piston firing order can be maintained, providing smooth operation. For example, on a five cylinder engine the firing order is 1, 3, 5, 2, 4, and back to cylinder 1. Moreover, this always leaves a one piston gap between the piston on its combustion stroke and the piston on compression. The active stroke directly helps compress the next cylinder to fire, making the motion more uniform. If an even number of cylinders were used, an equally timed firing cycle would not be feasible.

Several years ago there was a documentary on TV which included this very subject with full detailed animation. Basically, it was some bright engineers using technology that was available and proven at the time. I think these radial engines were used in WWI. Cool!!!

But a 70hp v-twin probably is making more torque than a 70 hp parallel twin, hence the comment the v-twin is a more powerful motor despite equal hp numbers.
Don't forget the extra torque that comes with the longer stroke in relation to the bore.

Seriously though, it reminds me of the comment from my niece (civil engineer fresh out of college) who asked about the direction of a ceiling fan and whether you looked at it from the floor or the ceiling. You gotta wonder how some people think, no matter how "smart" they are.

The direction of the engine, "in the same direction as the wheels" makes more sense.
