Question Retard ignition 7 degrees without timing light?

I seen somewhere on here before a better way to set timing on an ignition CONE module from Aaron from Hammer Performance but can't find it. He spoke about
a similar method.

My daytona twin tec 1005S-EX ignition is dialed in with a timing light at 20 degrees BTDC with the 2 dots in the timing peep whole per instructions.

My daytona twin tec ignition has a MAX advance of 30 degrees at curve 0,
and a MAX advance of 35 degrees at curve 9.

Ignition is scribed, marked etc at current rotation location so could be put back quickly.

How would a timing light with advance settings be used to retard to a specific value? or how many .1" or degrees measurement on ignition module itself would it take to retard 1 (one) degree? Counter clockwise.

So if I choose curve 0, and dynamic time it per instructions, my max advance is 30 degrees BTDC.

I want to retard it to 28 degrees BTDC for that curve. How far measurement wise should I rotate the module counter clockwise?

If using curve 9, MAX advance is 35 degrees BTDC. I would like to try that curve also, but retard MAX timing to 28 degrees BTDC.

Any quick tips or pointers to other threads or feedback would be much appreciated.

◾If you're using a DTT 1005S-EX ignition, static time the module using the
LED as described in the module's instructions, then rotate it clockwise .030" as
measured at the perimeter of the plate, and set it on curve 0.

you have a dial back light? set to zero and check timing to set if it is correct. now dial back the light to desired setting and then turn ign base plate till you see the timing mark again.

Its's really that simple? Man I think too deep sometimes.

Yes I have a dial back light. 0 timing on light is 20 BTDC (2 dots) in peep hole at idle per daytona twin tec instructions. So at that RPM, stock MAX advance is aprox 26 degrees BTDC in curve 9... at idle.

If i want to rotate ignition module, at idle, to change the MAX 35 degrees BTDC at 2000RPM and above at WOT, while timing with light during idle, so MAX advance will change to 28 degrees BTDC at WOT, I need to take the idle (RPM) max number of 26, set the light to 7(35-7=28), turn module again till double dots come back in to timing peep hole... at idle?

As long as reference (during idle) is at a certain MAX, turing the module changes every MAX advance so the whole curve changes.

Is that correct?

First step, define what you're trying to do.

With the VOES disconnected, you're trying to get a curve that reaches full
advance, 28 degrees, somewhere around 5000 - 5500 RPM, right?

if you retard base timing, it is over the whole curve, aka, 15 at base would drop 5 off any adv position in the module unless you have a e2prom and can change timing curves via a computer. one thing to note: setting back the 5 also means you are setting start timing back 5, aka 0 tdc to 5 btdc.
