Pump always worked—just discovered the wire when changing tanks (in both cases—from original peanut tank to larger capacity and then back—so failure with both original tank and OEM tank). Service at LHD could only suggest a new pump and harness (harness not sold seperately) but that is what I did the first time around (and not covered under warranty). I have to be MORE objective in my LHD sevice comments because I found out they are reading this forum (makes sense).

Repair in blue wiring. Crimped and soldered. Will ride thru a few tanks and check. Note in addition to repair steps outlined in prior posts, also spliced in another ground wire to main ground where it exited the tank and am running that wire straight to frame ground. This will bypass any faulty connection that may exist but which is not showing up in testing.

Have you checked the ground straps connecting the frame to the engine? Grounding to the frame is not as definite as grounding to the engine where the battery is grounded, because those ground straps could be broken or just corroded. The path has to make it back to the battery.

I saw a car many years ago that burnt the choke cable in half because the strap between engine and frame was broken or just left disconnected (many years ago and my memory sucks that far back).

Good point—yes, checked that earlier—all was fine there. (...and between you and me, yes, I’m running that backup wire directly to the negative post but figured if I mentioned that someone would make an opposite case. I want to absolutely insure a solid ground, so going to the post makes the most sense, just not a typical wiring process since normally just the ground strap attaches to the ground post.)
