Default XR Horn Relay?

Does the XR have a horn relay switch on it? If so, how would I find it on mine?

I'm interested in changing out that lame "beep-beep" horn for one that goes "honk-honk".

I found some directions online showing how to replace a typical factory "low powered" horn, but it recommends also installing a horn relay if the motorcycle doesn't have one.

I don't know if the XR has a horn relay or where it would be located to check it.

Any help is appreciated.

Can't say for sure, but I do know a bunch of people have installed higher powered or dual horns (like dual fiamms) on late-model XLs without adding a relay. So either it has one, or the circuit can handle it, I betcha...

might be able to tell by disconnecting the horn an pushing the button.
should be able to hear the relay click, i doubt it has one tho

The Stebel Compact Nautilus comes with a relay. I was told on the xlf that if you didn't use a relay, you would fry the switch wires so I didn't take a chance.

Easy hook up-battery to #30, original horn wires to # 85 & 86, #87 to + side of horn, negative horn to ground.

Check if it can be mounted to the tank bolt (lotsa threads on here) very sano install

I just looked at the reviews for the Stebel compact nautilus air horn. One guy, with a Beuel XR12, said it would not fit.

How similar is the HD XR to the Beuel XR?

I had a dual fiamms setup on my old Honda VF750C and salvaged it when the bike was hauled away. Those sounded fantastic: Like a great big caddy horn!

Although I don't have an XR, it looks like it should mount to the tank bolt up front, it might be a tight squeeze, but there are also other locations you can try..

I find them all the time on ebay for around 35.00
