Default Relay Issue???

I just picked up an 06 883 for my wife and the speedo along with the odometer stopped working. The check engine light also comes on after a few miles, if I shut the bike off restart and get going it is fine for another few miles. Runs fine but light keeps coming on.....can it be in the relay? All of the fuses are fine as they were my first of the trouble shoot. Any advice or similar issues? Thanks Bruce

there is no relay for the speedo .most likely it is a bad speed sensor, but you should check and clear the codes.you will find a thread on how to check codes.

Here is the thread you're talking about. I would vote for the speed sensor too, especially if everything else still works on the speedo (ie backlight, switch, etc). Also, do you're turn signals still self cancel? If not, it is another good indicator it's probably the speed sensor.

Mine did the same thing twice. The first time was under warrenty. (Which didn't matter)
You might have a broken wire. Mine broke in the harness close to the front mount bracket of the tank. I soldered it back together and it works fine. (The dealer didn't do a very good job)

Yep.........check your codes and re-set.....after it does it again a time or two.....bite the bullet and buy a new speed sensor. It's kind of a bugger to get in but if you move the oil lines out of the way...it's about a 15 minute job.

After I cahnged mine.....I've had Zero issues.........and my speedo would stop frequently.
