That neck has shifted. MMI means nothing. He needs the frame checked out or buy another off Ebay. Pinwall Cycles on Ebay is a good company. He could have gotten a front end for $249 or less from them....

Then your buddy is an idiot, and that's me being nice about it.

If I were you I'd pay for it to go to a shop to have the frame checked with the stipulation that if it's FUBAR he pays for it (he'd be out a heck of a lot more money and time if it turns out to be FUBAR and buys all the parts). Ultimately that's not that much for potentially saving his life and his finances. If it's not then you eat the cost and at least know your friend isn't riding a death trap waiting to happen

Just got a call from my buddy. He is going to get a frame, front end and wheel from an 01 sportster for 700 dollars. it doesn't have a motor, so we are going to put the motor in his into the new frame. He finally realized the frame is tweeked.

This is good. Motorswap shouldn't be that hard...right

That's what I would do.
I'm not sure on the registration rules or process (Frame/VIN, Engine/VIN) but I'd make sure to get some sort of paperwork with the frame just to be safe.
Good luck on the rebuild. He will learn a lot.

I'm a MMI grad. and work in a HD Service dept...that frame is tweaked, I would not ride on it.

I'm for one glad he came to that realization. Swapping stuff over shouldn't be that hard. Hopefully the frame will come with the title, and it's clean. retitleing a salvage vehicle can be a PITA in some states.

He said it has a clean title, and he has a clean title for the new frame. We should be ok for titling purposes.
