Default 35mm identification

I need to buy an axle and some 8 over tubes, but I hear there a couple different versions of the 35mm forks. Heres what I got...

Those are the earliest 35mm Sportster forks, and were made by Kayaba (KYB).

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

The easiest giveaway is the lack of the removable axle clamp on the bottom of both sliders - only one slider has that feature. The other spotting feature is a visible "step" in the slider about an inch below the dust boot. The later Showa 35mm forks have removable clamps on the bottoms of both sliders and the slider is smooth below the dust boot. The Showa sliders also have 'SHOWA' and 'Made in Japan' cast into them behind the fender mounts. Parts for the Showa forks are pretty easy to find, but unfortunately, they aren't for the Kayaba forks, which I believe were found on only the '73 and '74 models.
