Default pushrod seals

I've searched and read and am getting conflicting info. before I learned how to do it, I had a shop redo my motor, they put 3 pushrod covers that used flat seals (I'm using the blue neoprenes with no problem) and one that used O rings, why they did that i dont know, question : can u use the flats on O ring covers, I read you could and I read you couldnt, please advise I also read that the o rings dry rot, the bike sat for 2 1/2 years

Squeezing orings give dry rot breakage tryouts.

Can't speak on other stuff without pics.

I've used the blue silicone seals on my '77 XLT and the cork gaskets on my '78 with no problem. I haven't used the o-ring seals.
