I use bluehost to host my own domain (several of them actually) and email (I've had the same email address since 1995). Gave up on the "big" providers a long time ago when they started consolidating. Hate giving up my details so they can sell my info for cash. Now if they kicked some my way I might feel different. Probably not.

Used to host my own domain on one of my servers at home, but got tired of dealing with the security and maintenance and moved it to bluehost.

Paying for AOL still? Yikes. Reminds me of a couple times I went on a repair ticket (phone) to a Senior citizens house and they still had an old AT&T hardwired landline phone that they were still paying a monthly rental fee on. Thousands of dollars over 2 decades or more probably for a phone they could buy for 20 bucks. I tried to explain but I doubt they changed anything...lol

I resemble that remark.
Today's technology is ruining otherwise function brain cells on a daily basis in my opinion.

I don't have a need for a domain.
The only internet socialness I enjoy is this forum.

Don"t make worse by switching to Windstream

5 PM every day. My internet goes down for a hour or so. Can't be fixed. Bad infrastructure plus no body wants t work outside of oil field work because of the wages.

man, haven't heard "AOL" in decades, did not know they still existed.
everyone is going dual authentication due to the corrupt world we live in.
there maybe a way to have a secrete password or whatever instead of email shinola, my bank tried that and i said if you buy me a smart phone and pay for data, then i will go email.
actually, that was pretty cheap service.

My dad was a driller in Texas for awhile, eventually moved to the derrick.
Hard work.

I've got to do some research soon. I can't keep AOL.
Any worries with Charter?

Yep, that's me.
Riding the dinosaur.

I get a wild hair sometimes and pull up to the McDonald's and give them a $10 dollar bill plus 47 cents to pay for $7.47 worth of food.
Just trying to reduce the change in my pocket.
The deer in the headlights expression is priceless.

When I lived in the middle of nowhere Colo. I had Hughes net satellite internet and it was blazing fast but pricey.
OK here's a way back internet provider. I had Prodigy internet back in 83 and was writing basic on a Commodore 64 with tape drive. I should have stayed in computers..

Used to be, living here on the great plains, that you could drive 150-200 miles before you got a signal. Oil companies still use Sat. phones out here.
I pay $39 a month for Hi-Speed internet, but that's only because I bought my own modem and wi-fi router. Here, they always want to rent you everything.
Leave Germany out of the Cell phone service like the rest of Europe. I live in Germany and the cell phone service here SUCKS! I was in no where Portugal, I fell in love with Portugal, and I had 4G service! I live just outside a decent size city and we have very very limited cell service, just one company put a tower up this year and now you have to switch to that to have good service, which i will do next year when my contract is up, they dont but out contracts here like in the states. My land lines are so old i am limited to 6Mbps download, and upload HAHAHA anyway. I feel like I live in the past here. Germany is supposed to be so great and Auto technology is but the infrastructure is way behind and we have some of the highest taxes here!
Rant over.

I would seriously see if centurylink is available in your area. Here in Dubuque another company had fiber optic run before selling out. It sat unused. Centurylink came in and took it over later after discovering it's existence and put it to use.
Their 40mb is faster than mediacom's 200mb because it's dedicated and you're not sharing with everyone on your node like cable. They also have no contract price for life meaning as long as you never cancel, your rates never go up. Ever.
I had to have another phone line run in to go 200mb but they ran it for free. I don't use the phone line for anything else and no charge for it.
You can also get a static IP address rather than having it dynamic if you so desire.

It feels like an old song.....
I logged in for the first time since 'the conversation' and low and behold....
No longer need the phone to log in and the 'irregularities' in my account have vanished.
Sounds like another company we all know of.

I'll check into the ones you guys mentioned.
Gotta spend some time figuring out all to save and who needs the new email when I get one.
Thanks.

My first computer:
Tandy 1000 with a cassette player for storage.
Taught myself 'basic' on it with the 'for dummies' book.
That would fill a days time.....
I started learning machine language just before they quit selling everything for it.
Then forgot about it.
