Default Roadside Manners

Hot today so I took a little jaunt up to the site of the upcoming Damn Yankee Rally on Aug. 2nd since I haven't been before.
I stopped to take a photo and a guy pulled up to me in a pickup truck to see if I was okay. We gave each other a "thumbs-up."
That was a really nice feeling. The way it should be.

Yeah, the other day I was attempting a push start because of a transient fault in the start circuit and a guy came over and gave me a hand saying he was a biker back in the day!

Ironheads rule

The bike started and the fault disappeared.

I also had a surprisingly pleasant experience last month, not even on a cycle...

I was in Massachusetts to pick up my newly-purchased 1983 Sportster. I had a Silverado with a U-Haul cycle trailer on the hitch (the box trailer with the V-notch for the front tire). I was trying to cut across a parking lot and found out it was a dead end. The Silverado was borrowed from a relative, I'd never driven it before, and hadn't backed up a trailer in years.

I spent about 15 minutes trying to back up in this crowded parking lot and a guy came out of a building and asked if I needed any help. I told him what I was trying to do, and why (pick up a motorcycle). He offered to guide me, or if I wished, he'd get in and back it up himself. He said he had a similar rig. I said sure, take over! He did, and got it turned around, and told me how to get where I needed to go.

Great guy. He knew I was a motorcyclist but was willing to help anyway.

Lots of old school riders still around, and are still willing to stop and help out. The problem with the newer riders is that even if they knew to stop and check, they don't even know how to change their own oil let alone know enough to help make a roadside repair. The modern day tool kit is a cell phone and credit card.
