Pennzoil 20/50 dino across ironhead and rigid evos.
Napa Gold 1215 since napa store is a block away. Which is something to say where I live.

I don't over think things at 65 anymore.
Pragmatism takes priority now financially and mentally.

Everybody has their own pragmatism thing going which is fine by me.

Wix list 57148 and 57348 for Harley and they are a 5 micron filter.

If you go by application for Sportster it’s the 51215 which is a 21 micron filter.

5 micron is a lot finer, but it’s going to be in bypass with cold 20w-50 oil.

not saying what to use tho...
Once again, I've learned something from the forum. This is very useful info. Since I use 20W/50, I will switch to the NAPA Gold 7148 to the 1215 at my next scheduled change which is after my next ride.
Thanks for the update on the micron info.

Regarding the micron differences, I just found this on the internet by S&S Cycle:

Should I run a 10 micron or a 30 micron oil filter?
By S&S Cycle

A micron rating is given to show the efficiency of the oil filter (one micron is a millionth of a meter). This leads consumers to believe that the 10 micron filter must be better for their bike. Here is where it can get confusing. Though the 10 micron filter may have a higher filtration rating it does not allow the oil to return to the tank as fast. With this in mind, the 10 micron filter was developed for use with the Twin Cam style engine, which has a different oiling system that allows oil to be forced through a more restrictive oil filter. The reason for the tighter filtration was explained by the manufacture as necessary to assure all of the smaller passages, in the Twin Cam style engine, would stay clear of debris.

If you run the 10 micron filter with an Evolution style engine, it will not be able to return oil through the filter fast enough causing the oil to back up into the lower end robbing power and/or causing oil to puke out of the lower end. The 30 micron filter is designed to work best for your Evolution style engine, the filtration is still excellent and it will not cause oiling issues.

When it comes to filtering oil, application is very important. There have been a lot of changes and updates in the market with too many filter brands claiming a better filtration. Don’t be fooled into using a filter that might not be the best for your bike.

S&S Cycle.

This confirms the higher number micron filter being better for the Evolution engine.
I finished my ride, change my oil and replaced my NAPA Gold 7148 (5 micron) filter with the NAPA Gold 1215 (21 micron) filter .

I use the black filter simply because there is very little chrome on my XL883 Standard. The chrome filter would like out of place, sort of like lipstick on a pig.

There seems to be quite a lot of debate here, given that it's 'The No Debate OIL POLL'!

I'll delete the recent off topic posts here. Can posters try to respect the OP's request, and limit responses to a short comment only. Otherwise I'll have to consider whether the thread has run its course.
