Default Front head gasket leak

Hi
I have an oil leak out of the front head gasket on the left side.

Nothing major just a little bit on the fin.

2 questions.

1. Should I replace this now or keep running the bike ?

2. If I pull the engine down Is there anything else I should change while I Am there. ?

Also I have a James gasket top end kit, a lot of pple recommend cometic gaskets. Are james good or average ?

One more. What does a top end refresh involve. Ie what gets replaced. ?

1990 4 speed Wiseco 1200 conversion.
60,000 Klms.
Thanks in Advance.

Do a compression check and get a service manual. Also, check sportsterpedia.com

Is it a wet spot only with out drips? I would not mess with it. I did my top rocker box gaskets as they were leaking bad especially when leaned over the stand where the oil pools. I used Cometic and those folks are great but cant speak to James gaskets sorry. You have 2 layers of gaskets so look up the video's on youtube for tips but it's easy.

As to other work? What is below the rocker? The head, cylinder and piston/rings? Valves okay? compression test good wet and dry? If so, swap out the gaskets over a couple beers and keep riding IMO. Or, pull it and drop a Hammer 1275 kit in there... :-)

Thanks for the info Ben221.
It’s not dripping just looks wet when I shine the torch on it.
I did the wiseco 883-1200 conversion in 2005 but the bike hasn’t done many miles since then and the bike sat without being started for 6 years.
Seems to be running fine, compression is good and plugs look good as well.

So... Is this a Rocker Box leak??? or really a Head Gasket??
Running with a Blown Head Gasket will flame cut the head to jug interface...Every Time.

+1 to this. Rocker box leaks are common. Head gasket leaks not so much.

If it is in fact a head gasket leak, that's a "fix now" problem. Rocker box leak, if it's not too bad you can get around to it when you have time.

Cleaned around the gasket, have been for a couple of rides and still looks clean.

Will keep an eye on it and see how it holds up.

I bought the cometic top end kit so am ready.
