Default Need a mechanic

Need a mechanic to (possibly) re build my motor. First off, I'm not sure if that is what it needs, really. He's an okay mechanic ... for general stuff maintainance issues and stuff, and he is convinced my engine is "Blown" ... connecting rod? He suggested I just buy a used engine and just swap them out, but I don't really want to do that. First, the VIN numbers on the frame and engine won't match, second, if I bought a used motor (or bike) that's 34 years old, I'd want to rebuild it anyways, why not rebuild mine? Also, my engine has ported and polished heads, and cams installed, and only (about) 50,000 miles on it a used engine could have way more miles on it.

I'm in Chicago, and I've started checking around and not really gotten anywhere yet, a lot of places are backed up just now, but I'm in no rush, I'd never get it back before winter anyways. I'd be willing to drive some to get there, into Ohio or Iowa or Wisconsin, If it's the right person for me and Ol' Betty.

Go north into Wisconsin. These people did the engine in the Gentleman's Express for me and I'm happy with it.

Weirdly, the dealer can rebuilt engines for less than most Indy will charge.

The longblock program are limited to Evo but sportster can be done in shop.

Worth checking.

It looks like it's only offered for the Twin Cam engines. Didn't they have some issues with cam chain tensioners going bad?

I've read good things about Darkhorse, don't they do crankshaft work too?

Darkhorse Is the place that both S&S and Hammer have cranks done. When my rods started knocking, I brought my bottom end to them to have it rebuilt. What I saw of their operation really impressed me. While there, I saw a set of Carrillo Rods and it was instant lust. So I had them put the Carrillos in my engine. Andrew told me that Carrillos were overkill for my engine, but I just had to have them. I had Darkhorse put the entire engine together; not just the bottom end and I'm happy with it. Between the .0005 oversize crankpin and the Carrillo rods, I think my bottom end will outlast me.

Darkhorse did my bottom end. They give a 2 year warranty.

I have no experience with their work, but I've dealt with T&O (Wichita) for 25 years with no complaints.
