Ok. I’ll have to do some research, see if anyone in Australia stocks them, and give them ago.

I put the 70t rear pulley on before I went for a ride today, I did have the 66t on. Even with that 4 tooth change I seen a significant change in fuel consumption. The numbers are back where I’m used to seeing them, so I guess the exhaust gaskets were the problem. I’ll torque the flange nuts again when she cools down.

When setting up your shocks, use the same section of road consistently. Make small changes and document each change. Start with the builders recommendations or in the center of adjustment. Keep in mind some of the action(or lack of) in either front or rear, directly effects either. Start with setting the rebound first.

Thanks Mike thatís good advice, I have been reading similar stuff lately. Trying to translate the feedback of what Iím feeling to making the correct adjustment is a struggle. Like for example is that harshness Iím feeling in the front too much compression or too much rebound? At first I thought I needed to back off the compression but now Iím thinking that was wrong.
Iím away working for 7 days, when I get home Iíll put it all back to builders recommendations and start with the rebound this time. One click or turn at a time.

I put the low tracker handlebars back on today for all out canyon carving mode, but with a slight difference. I got myself another handlebar clamp, flipped it and put it under the bars. This gave me just under 1 inch rise on the bars and allowed me just under an inch adjustment to move the forks up the triple trees without changing the fork cap extenders for the stock caps. Making the transition between touring mode and carver mode a lot easier.



Unlike most Harley’s the handlebar mount and top triple tree is all one piece on the XR. There’s not many options out there in the riser department for it.



I like the feel of the bike with lower handlebars when cornering but my left shoulder got banged up pretty bad 25 years ago, the lower bars make it ache. I’m not sure how much difference 1 inch will make but I will soon find out.... who wouldn’t want an extra inch?

On my last ride I thought I could feel a vibration that isnít normally there, I put it down to having fitted the stiffer springs on the both the front and rear of the bike.

I watched a video last night someone posted on the forum. Itís a tutorial video from Hammer Performance on how to adjust your throttle cables correctly. I thought it was worth checking my adjustment, it wouldnít take long to pull the Free Spirits air intake off to check it.

First thing that indicated something wasnít right was when I pulled the air filter off. The inside facing section of the filter had let go of the base and there was a bloody great hole in it.



I was thinking the only thing that could cause that would be excessive vibration. I looked over the air intake pipe or as free spirits call it ďthe blackhorn ď I discovered it had cracked around the weld that holds the bracket on and it was spreading around the pipe like a virus.







I have the original air filter assembly I can use. In the meantime I have sent pictures to free spirits and am waiting for their reply. I think itís early morning there. Iíve had this for a intake for a long time but for the price of it I was hoping it would last a lot longer.

There was a few of reasons I changed the stock air filter box for the free spirits blackhorn. Every time you wanted to service the air filter you had to remove the fuel tank. Because the stock air filter box is bolted to the fuel tank. So the rubber mounted engine is shaking away underneath it only attached by a bit of rubber that slips onto the down draft intake, no clamps at all. The free spirits intake was proven to allow more air to be sucked into the engine. And it looked cool I thought.
I donít think I will be purchasing another, I donít think I can trust it now. I doubt free spirits will send me another.

My new old air filter.




I pulled the old box apart, cleaned it, oiled the k&n filter I purchased for it years ago and installed it this afternoon. Doesnít look too bad I guess...

Playing around with some white plasti-dip paint.



What do you think? Wife says she likes it, but Iím not sold on it.

The white fairing was a bit too much though haha.



It had to go.



Iíll give it a few days, it might grow on me... or Iíll just peel it off.
