Why was you amazed? We don't build junk. The only thing that amazes me still is that those 560's work fairly well at low RPM.

Thanks for posting the dyno run. Looks as good as it feels.

I need to get to working on the Mule again. It needs bars and a few other things to make it as ridable as I would like. Today I am riding the Pig as usual, because that bike just feels right. That reminds me, I better check air pressure, it's right outside the back door and I was forgetting. The rear has had a deeper thump lately, so I know it's getting low on air.

Well, you didn't have the entire equation in front of you. I spent a lot of time in my younger years porting cars and bikes with access to a flow bench, including two strokes (which is a totally different animal). This was far from "minor porting" by the way. The rear head was nearly junk from the factory, so I had to do that one first then make the front one match it. Also, I did do work on the intake manifold as well. It's all matched, with no step off's from the carb to the intake port. No access to a flow bench this time, but it helps to know what works. I think these are close to perfect high speed air flow with stock valves.

It would be interesting to see what other people have been able to get with a 1250 flat top carbureted build.


By the way...
Rear tire on the Pig was at about 32# (normally 44). That baseball bat is one of the most important tools anyone can have. Use it every time you roll the bike out. I figured it was about 10# low. You can tell within 4 or 5# with very little practice..

If they were mine, I would still work them over a bit and make sure they match up good, but yeah, from what I saw of the set you have they would be a great starting point. Much better than the crappy factory casting I had to work with.
