Well, there ya go, if they make lifters with longer flats than the SE lifters I am looking at here, then the sky is the limit. You could machine the surface down the desired amount, or you could do a counter bore and have new ARD's made that have lower lips that could go down into the counter bores.

I think this solves the problem. The only limit to the lower edge of the ARD's is the length of the flats. If Harley would just lower that surface to the same depth as the old pins, then the problem should go away. It would be a simple job for us too actually.

Can you post a picture of a lifter with longer flats? Let me see what you are talking about.

That would require more machining of the cast, which volumetricly induces cost...you know how this ends.

What I've seen over the decades is that every bike can be collectible given time, some more than others but generally speaking an unmolested, completely stock and well taken care of bike will have more worth than most people realized it could when it was new. If there are two bikes of the same make and model in the same general condition but one being completely stock and the other with expensive trick aftermarket parts, the stock one will generally fetch the higher price.

You'd be surprised at what is still functional from the Titanic. I recently read that the swimming pool is still full of water after all these years!
