Default Alternative to stock clutch cable?

I spent a decent chunk of change on some matching aftermarket clutch and brake levers. However, the metal grommet at the end of the clutch cable (I think P/N 38654-71) doesn't fit into the lever because the OD of the grommet is too large. I have a 1972 XLCH clutch cable right now.

Does anyone know of any alternative clutch cables that have smaller grommet ODs for a 1972 XLCH? I saw that the early XLCH cables have a different grommet (38654-53) but just by pictures it doesn't look much smaller and I'm not sure it would work.

My only other option I think is to drill out the lever to accept the 1972 clutch cable, but I don't know how I'd get a good fit seeing as I only have a power drill.

How much too big is the grommet? If just a little you could file a little off to reduce the OD. I did that on my project as I had the same issue.

Magnum Shielding has some nice cables. Call them and they will custom make whatever cable you need.
