Default Changing Battery(with factory Alarm)

Hi,i have just bought a 2012 Sportster,("fitted with factory alarm"),which needs a new Battery,is there a procedure for doing this at home.or is it dealer only,as the seller has been told.?

It may be the battery for the alarm siren that he is talking about. When it starts chirping 3 times instead of 2, apparently it's time to change the battery. I bought a new one for mine, and now it has returned to chirping twice. I'll get around to changing it soon anyway.

No the main Battery is Dead,it won't charge up,the bikes not been started for a year or so & someone unplugged the trickle charger

Normally you would turn the bike on, make sure that the alarm is disabled, then take out the maxi fuse. This is because otherwise disconnecting the battery would set off the alarm. But if the battery is completely dead, then it's already the same as if it was disconnected. I would think that you can just replace the battery.
