Default Transmission Removal

The shift shaft on my recently acquired '83 is bent. I found an NOS shaft on eBay, and have gathered all of the parts that I think I'll need... Now I just have to pull the transmission out of the case to replace the shaft.

I had to pull the primary chain and clutch basket on my old ironhead once, and it seems like something in there had left hand threads (but I may also be remembering that from my Evo). No mention of it in the FSM. Can anyone shed some light on this so that there are no surprises?

Also, any pointers to make the job go as smoothly as possible, or advice on things that are problematic to look for while I'm in there would be greatly appreciated! I haven't owned an ironhead in over 20 years.

TIA!
Myrl

There are no left hand threads except for a somewhat obscure part of the starter shaft housing assembly. See page 5-7 of 88484-85.
