of importance is that the piston groove be square shouldered and when using "C" types, the pin must have a bevel that will mate up to the clip if it moves so that it receives a downward thrust.
i prefer spiral locks but these do better with square pin shoulders, ever seen one run with a bevel, it will push the spiral edges over, never seen it fail though.

The shoulders are square cut.

Pin's beveled.

I asked for help and you responded.
I appreciate your assistance.
I'm getting older and will probably soon be to the point of annoying the Hell out of everybody.

For you and anyone else reading this,
When I learn something new, I store it in the Sportsterpedia.
That way, just in case someone else would like to know it, it's there for them to learn without the hassles I went through.
The pedia goes well over and beyond normal answers to the average questions in general.
I for one try to answer questions from questions in the interest of being thorough with the information.

I can not and will not post anything in the pedia on the basis of "because some said so"
If that is a problem to you, it wasn't intentional.

I am learning like most on this forum and I am going to ask dumbass questions from time to time.
Feel free to ignore my screen name if you don't want to be bothered anymore by me.

Now guess what I'm thinking.

I was referring to this:
050 = Retainer thickness
and that's what you measured on the CP retainer.
Putting a larger 0.059 retainer will cause issues if the retainer groove is designed for the 0.050" retainer.

I agree.
For grins and giggles I put the CP cir-clip on one side, installed the pin and I was able to install the OEM on the other side.
Then I pushed the pin into the OEM clip and heard the sproing, ting, ting, ting the rocketmangd mentioned.

The clip can be installed without the pin in.
It will sit there and appear to be locked in but it's not set down into the groove.
So it won't stay.
The groove is not all of the problem.
With the pin installed with both OEM clips, the second clip won't even get close to centered in the groove due to the extra width.

I tried to measure the gap with modeling clay but that turned out to be inconclusive with varying thickness of the clay once removed.

Neither the pistons or pins have any identifying marks that match the numbers in the CP's PDF data.
They have 883, 1200 and conversion sizes posted but none for 1250 kits.
But most if not all of their XL wire clips are the 787-050SWL part number as Bored now mentioned.

Speaking of, No hard feelings dude.
I just don't like being treated that way.

I guess I missed something. Did you take one of my posts as being rude?
If so I am sorry, did not mean it in anyway other than a technical discussion.

I had some personal experience with this retainer issue on an old build.
I used a HD one when I 'lost' one of the new ones (CP) and it came
loose and trashed a cylinder when I was about 1200 miles from home.
Expensive lesson.

So your question was a good one and it brought back that lesson I learned.

Geez,
I'm glad I asked then.
SBC wrist pins press in so I'm not as used to floating pins.

I wasn't referencing you.

Someone needed bow and a courtesy for answering my question and couldn't stand me verifying their answer.
It's my bike and my money on the line so I like to verify things when I can.
I meant no harm in verifying the part.

It's Ok though.
I'm over it.

My apologies as well.
Sometimes I can have the tact of a snow pea.
It's all good.

Meanwhile I appreciate you helping me get on the right track.
I don't know everything.
A lot of your past posts on this forum have been helpful to me also.
Respect.
