I checked with some of the H-D dealerships in the region and most we quoting about $500-to-$600 for the 20K servicing because there's a lot involved. Indy shop quoted just under $300 for same servicing. The guy who runs the indy used to work for one of the H-D shops, so I know he's up on all the items.

Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson
The fact they were open on Sunday bought me there first. Damn friendly people brought me back to buy my bike. Even though it took me two weeks to decide, Greg, my salesman never stopped trying to make sure I was happy. Shane, the Sales Manager, Mary Beth in clothing, Marc in accessories, James, Curtis, Brad, Erica, Eddie and everyone else there are stellar examples of Customer Service! The owner should be proud. I worked 7 years in the speed shop market and just like Harleys, bikes are a luxury item. It's not everyday I hand someone a check for that much money. When I do, I want to enjoy it. That evening, Greg bought me a couple of beers while listening to some good rock-n-roll at The Shed. It just doesn't get any better. On the opposite end, we have the HD dealer here in Knoxville, I've been in there twice and the only person to ever acknowledge my presence was the young lady at the front door desk. Sure makes the 29 mile drive to SM-HD worth it! Keep up the great work guys!

Here in the PHX area I have dealt with 3 dealers. On a scale from 1-10, 10 being great treatment.
Buddy Stubbs in phoenix 10
Chesters (formerly Chosa's) in Mesa 9
Hacienda in Snobbsdale -6.023 X 10 23rd power (yes a negative Avagadro's number!) However their Official Motor Company Boutique and Cafe has some nice looking women working there. If you want to know what the haute couture official lifestyle biker wears, go there.

Many of the dealerships tend to be MAJOR expensive. Guess they gotta pay for those fancy buildings some how.

Most are filled with decent people, just gotta watch out...

Some of the places I've run across have the motto: "We're not happy 'til you're not happy."

Las Vegas Harley Davidson sucks........Very Expensive....and about as customer oriented as a badger.....They are the only dealer in the valley. They have 2 or 3 stores with no competition. Closest dealer competition is 100 miles away in Kingman AZ. I asked them about the 883 to 1200 conversion and they couldn't tell me what it entailed nor what the cost was.....The guy behind the counter didn't even show any interest in finding out the info for me....I don't get it....I was trying to give them some money....There were other times that I had a distinct lack of service. Maybe its because I have a sporty instead of a 30K behemoth.....I wrote the Gen Manager a long letter detailing my discontent with them. I get a call back a few days later from some guy calling himself the Dir of Operations. After asking me about why I was disappointed with the dealership he went on to tell me that not only are the service people compensated on sales but also on a customer service survey. I had two thoughts on his comments....One, Why are SERVICE personnal paid on sales comission basis.........and two...I dont give a crap how they are paid....He did say that they dropped the ball. That was appreciated. But what he did not do was to say......We apoligize for the screw ups and please let us make it up to you....How about a 10-15% discount on your next service or something. Now I could care less about the discount but it would have shown me that they were willing to put their money where there mouth is. Bottom line is that I have spent my last dime in their establishment and I will tell anyone interested to stay far away from them. My little 2 cents won't have any effect though....They are the largest dealer in the country. BTW I drop my scoot off on friday to have the conversion done by an Indy in the area. He at least told me that he appreciated the business and he doesn't charge $89.95 for an oil change.....

Oh well enuf whining....LOL

I know what you mean... I hear my friends doing that all the time but I usually tell them to let the guys check it out before they tell the techs what they "think" it needs.

I've had really good luck with the local H-D guys here in So-CAL, but I'm lucky to have five within easy driving distance. I guess other parts of the country aren't quite that lucky.

i don't know what the prep charge is for, but i just bought an 06 883 a couple of weeks ago from harley of cincinnati and the thing was filthy. there was some kind of dirt film all over it and it was super dusty. i figured it was cause i was just buying a sporty and not dumping a huge load of cash, until i talked to a guy i work with and find out his brother in law just bought a brand new fat boy from the same shop on the same day that i bought my bike and they did the same to him.

i'm a mechanic at a new car dealership, and i know whenever a car is sold, new or used, it is spotless and filled with gas. it really shocked me to see that a motorcycle dealer wouldn't do the same.

so i don't like my dealer.
