sportytrace, it is all depends what you want from a tyre. Cruiser tyres are mostly sold on wear, so they tend to have an oval profile where the biggest
contact patch is when upright. They also use hard wearing rubber to improve mileage. This is exactly where you should be looking if your priority is
a long distance between changing tyres. The down side is when you lean; an oval tyre is more likely to feel less stable than a contoured tyre that has
a bigger contact when leaning. A contoured profile means that the upright contact patch is narrower so your bike will probably have a lighter steering
feel when upright but more planted when leaning. Some folks like that feel some don't. Sportier tyres are typically formulated with softer compounds
as well, that should offer more grip, albeit at the expense of more wear. There are other factors like wall construction etc that also affect how a tyre feels.
The venerable Pirelli night dragons, Bidgestone H50s and Metzler Cruitecs are more contoured and aimed at the sportier end of the market. There is no
right or wrong just what you prefer from a tyre. Personally, I am happy to trade some wear for better handling and grip.

Default Metzeler Cruisetecs; Best Sportster tires I have ridden yet

I put a set of the Cruisetecs on my 2004 Sportster last week. So far I have ridden about 200 miles on them, 35 of that on very wet roads in the rain. I have ridden...
the stock Dunlops (never again)
the Michelin Commander IIs (great in the beginning, lasted 15,000 miles, definitely lost grip toward the end)
the Metzeler ME888s (as good as the Michelins in the handling and wet traction, were still legal for inspection at 20,000 miles, but wet grip was starting to fade at the very end.) Still better than the Michelins all around.
Metzeler Cruisetecs...handling and wet grips are off the chart. The bikes steers more lightly and quickly than the ME888s, and wet grip is ridiculous. I was riding a fairly curvy road in the rain like it was a dry, sunny day.
Of course no tire can help you on rain + oil or slippery paint or manhole covers, so you need to watch out extra for those. How long will they last? I'm gonna find out!
