The bike seemed repairable. BUT it would have cost more money and time. David is a bit over having to do another bike rebuild. he's spend more time rebuilding than riding this past year.
- I think that the seat was crushed, but that is replaceable.
- the front cylinder frame mounting bolt spot broke off. That would require some welding and what not.
- Some other stuff got lost, like the ignition (i think).
- the AC and Pipe was actually ok, i dont know how.
- handlebars got slightly bent, but they were clipons.
- hand controls got scratched
- clutch pin and controls got bent.. not sure if that could have been bent back and have it be workable.

The bike frame seemed ok. But it was hard to tell if it was slightly bent or not. The rear wheel did turn, and pistons moved. We think the engine was ok. It was sad that the broken in 1250 kit is going to a junk yard when it seems perfectly good.

The most important thing though, is that David is ok. he suffered a concussion and road rash, along with maybe some muscle bruising. The bike is replaceable, even though we will miss it. But David isn't.

Junk yard? Insurance mandated I guess?
Perhaps buying it back. Heck the motor could fetch a few grand by itself.

Well, to be fair, it was not a complete engine. The primary case was smashed, and so was the derby cover. The shifter shaft was at very least bent, and we did not open it up to see if it cracked the case when it bent the shaft.

I thought it would be worth the 1300 they wanted to buy it back, but David just wanted to move on and get the Buell.

He has ordered the manual, so maybe soon we will be addressing the lag. In the meantime, the bike seems to run OK otherwise, and David is going over all the bolts and screws to make sure it's solid.

Dam!! I hope all of that bad shyte is behind him now!! Glad he's OK.

Hesitation on EFI's is usually from bad connections or gas, fuel filter, dirty or partially plugged injector, wires or plugs and throttle is properly adjusted....then if that didn't get it , sensors are to be tested.
but then again you're saying he's got a after market tuner on there...soooo...we would have to look at that also, maybe first off...any mechanical noises that shouldn't be there ??

There's no such thing as a "Buell Chip". Maybe he means a Buell race ECM? That should be really easy to verify by just looking at it.

I have never heard of a "Buell Racing Spec" modification to a stock muffler. There was a factory race muffler, but it sounds like the one on the bike he bought was a stocker that was hacked.

Which "tuner" is installed? ECM Spy and Tunerpro (both free) are used with pretty good success. The Power Commanders aren't well liked on the XBs, and the TFIs aren't that much better. Most XB owners I know do their own tuning with ECM Spy.

I'm not an XB guy, but check this out and they may be able to answer your questions: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buel...tml?1426686536

No unusual noises. We listened to it good before he bought it, and we also dredged the oil bag (swing arm) with a magnet and it came up clean.

badweatherbikers... Cool, a salesman at Riverside Harley told me about that site before I started coming to this one, but I never checked it out. He was trying to sell me a Buell at the time, and that's just not my style (whatever style an old fart like myself has).

We have to figure this bike out. David is one of us now, we can't boot him out of the club (not alive anyway). We either have to learn about Buells or take him for a "ride".

Well, yes, but how many Forum members know enough about Buells to help?
General answer is that it is too lean off idle...the question is how to solve it...other than replacing the EFI with a carb ;-)
