Thanks to both of you.

Hey Sportsterpedia people, don't know if this is the right area to ask this but (I'm gonna) is there a call to list all the various year models along with all their known faults/things to watch out for?
This would be really useful for people buying preloved bikes so they can quickly check the sporsterpedia for the year they are looking at and pay particular attention to those areas of the prospective new purchase.
Of course, this would assume it would be for standard (or stage one) bikes as modified bikes would bring a whole different range of issues.
If there is already a section like this, please smack my hand and point me there . . .

Cheers, Will

Not currently in the Sportsterpedia. But, we'll put in on the list.
I did a search of the forum and found some links that may be helpful depending on year model sought. Some of these also transpire to all models regardless of year model.

9. 1986-90 Evo Sportsters: What every owner should know but were afraid to ask: http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread...ghlight=buying

edit: I created the page "Before Buying a New or Used Sportster" in the Reference section of the main Tech page under "Shop Notes, Tips and Tools". http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...used_sportster

I added these links there for the time being. If anybody has more info or links to add, I'll include them for when we get a chance to expand the subject fully. Links fixed

Thanks.

Default Sportster Rear Master Cylinder Changeover

In your Sportsterpedia history I think the year was 2013 you didn't mention that the Motor Company went back to a side rear mounted master cylinder to replace their problematic [POS] underslung master cylinder.
I am now in the process of determining whether or not it's feasible to upgrade my 06 XL883's master cylinder to the later model.

Redbeard2 - Thanks for the information... Maybe you could help us a little more...

Start a separate thread about the 'underslung' MC - Add some pics and explain the weaknesses...

The brake section is one that will eventually get more info... time, time, time...

Default Master Cylinder Changeover Update

It was 2014 when H-D went to the side mounted master cylinder. Here's the thread which brought my attention to the underslung master cylinder problems: http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=75157
The master cylinder on my 06 XL883 has been rebuilt twice but it is working.
