Question Gearing Change Without Affecting Speedo

I’m starting a 1275 build shortly and want to change my gearing to bring my rpm down a little for those times on the interstate. Here in Texas that means comfortably cruising 75-80. My question is what do I change on a 2014 Iron that won’t affect my speedo?

In order to not affect the speedo, you need to be looking at changing the primary drive to the 38/57 ratio mostly found on the 1200s (from 34/57), instead of changing the secondary drive.

And when you change to the 1200 gearing on a 2014 you will loose the gear indicator in the apeedo. Don't worry Aaron at Hammer can get it back for you. Tell him when you send your tune to him for your 1275 kit and tell him what you are doing. He will take a 1200 tune and import your 883 tables to it and your gear indicator will return. You will need a power vision for this.

Changes sprockets before the trans has no effect on the speedo. Changing things after the trans does.

one other way is to change secondary gearing and use a speedo calibrator. weigh the cost of pulley/belt. vs. crank/basket gearing. since i run int'l gearing, i use the cailbrator.

The cost and work involve will probably push me to just change from a 29T to a 30T and run international gearing as well. What did you use to calibrate your speedo?

well, have fun trying to find the 55t pulley, hd discontinued them. i used a badlands recalibrator.

What tuner are you using? Any of the normal flash based tuners (Power Commander, SEST, etc) allow you to change the gearing to within the ECM so the speedo reads correctly. There's actually two places within the ECM, one for the final drive and one for the primary gearing. While only the final drive impacts the speedo, having the primary gearing set correctly is important for proper idle while coasting (and other things).

Remember for 2014 and above there is a table in the ECM that controls the gear indicator that the power vision cannot see. Been through this with Aaron at Hammer.
