IF possible, maybe return most settings/needles/ int jet / back pressure back to as close as stock as you can, and baby steps one change at a time ??

Can I suggest maybe a ‘lollipop’ mod to create a lil back pressure to get rid of the big swings in AF ratios that the free flowing debaffled mufflers can bring ??

Yeah, ‘S’s are rare here too in Australia, and sooooo hard to find unmolested and almost worth crying over when seen hacked up by those who don’t appreciate this gem of a model

So true about finding an "S" model unmolested. A Two years search to find a one owner untouched bike I have now. My first EVO and fortunately no problems. Hopefully this stumble problem revels itself so others can learn by it.

Yeah they’re great, and always good to take back to how they were meant to be, as they were the kickass model to have of their time (and even now surprise a few newer ones)
To me it sounds like a reversion issue combined with a few AF ratio probs that were tweaked when the OP thought it was a fuel thing alone with needle/jetting tweaks/changes
Always hard to tell someone what the issue is when stabbing in the dark without data proving the prob.
One tinker at a time is a safer way to not screw up things too much, as even slight/minor changes changes change the way it does it’s thing is a slow burn but a faster way to not chase ones tail in the search for issue free running.
