Thumbs up

That looks to be an early style frame. The neck is the same as '72 and earlier frames and NO reinforcement supports in the seat area. Also, thank you for taking off the fat bob gas tanks. My first Sportster was a new '73 XLCH.

Hey, that's cool, I grew up in Washington and I live in Idaho, so I go both ways too

A famous alum of U of I, as well as Sandpoint High School, was a fella named Jerry Kramer. Just inducted into the Hall of Fame here a few months ago. He's quite the hero around here, in fact they're debating naming a Sandpoint street after him. Half the people in this town are Packers fans and the other half Seahawk fans. Makes for some real interesting cheering at the local pubs when those two teams play each other.

Interesting! I have wondered a bit whether the frame is entirely stock. It does have a 1973 VIN on the steering head.

Some previous owner really botched the install of those fat bob tanks. They had added a bracket (which I ground off). Half the welds were broken. The tanks were held together at the bottom with string.

This is THE BEST Sportster Resource!

Take a minute and please put at least your state/country in the LOCATION FIELD of your profile so we can better help you when you need it - Your climate, temps & altitude can make a difference to suggested fixes... (the STATE FIELD does not show on posts so you need to use the LOCATION FIELD)...

CLICK HERE - then scroll down to 'Additional Information' and look for the field labeled 'LOCATION' - put your information in there - It will then show on each post you make... Look for this:

Thanks for posting pictures...

There are various sections to the XLForum - You can pick a section that is related to your problem/info, open that section and read the sticky threads on the first page - Then post your comment in an existing thread or create a new one to get information for your specific question... For new threads, make the title specific to your problem or info...

This is the index of sections:
