NYC has a 311 hotline for reporting potholes and other quality-of-life issues. Supposedly some people have successfully sued the city for damage and death but it means lawyers and mega dedication, not to mention a lot of time.

I'm just glad I had a few spare studs at home, and very glad my rim/tire seems okay. The bars are 14" mini-apes and the wheel is a stock 19" with a 100/90 Michelin Commander II.
Take a ratchet, install a bolt with the nut in a vice and you will see how easy it's to brake a 1/2'' grade 5. Also, over tight bolts are very easy to brake.
I have install grade 8 bolts when I did change my handles bar; I was surprised to see ungraded bolts there, it was on mine.

I understand now that is the best move, going to a tougher bolt, a higher grade. I always assumed Grade 5 was plenty sturdy...now I'm wised up!
