that is solid advice but I think one thing can be added to it. Remember you can stop faster than the cages around you, but can the cage behind you stop as fast as you, remember that when choosing where to position yourself.

No concessions for bicyclists until they are regularly ticketed for violating the traffic laws just like motorists... AND they are required to have a separate license (with fees), carry insurance against creating a hazard & help pay for the roadways they ride upon... They get all the privileges with none of the responsibilities - - - - But that kind of 'entitlement' thinking is running rampant in our modern society? Socialism is being popularized...

Something I hate at this time of the year is the idiots that mow along the roadway and blow their grass clippings out into the street... Grass is nearly as slippery as ice...

I was taught to use the whole lane. I never lock in to one spot for any length of time. Left for a bit, right, down the center, weave around the lane a bit out of boredom... I like to keep everyone guessing. That said, I ride alone. I expect to be ignored, and I expect to have my full lane for myself, so I make use of it and try to make myself known on the road.

I keep my eyes to whatever may result in stupid things, but I like to make people think I'm stupid too. If you're obnoxious and seem unpredictable, people seem less willing to try to squeeze by, or rush that turn, or whatever idiotic thing they may be wanting to do. If you look like another idiot that's going to cause them trouble, they seem to be put on the defensive a little more often than when you look safe and predictable.

best response I've read in ages. Used to teach riding to beginners (METAL program; Motorcyclist Education, Training and Licencing in the Northern Territory, Australia) and what you've said just now trumps all the advice we used to teach.

Around here, that’s just the only way to avoid the potholes and craters. Seriously, a few years back a friend hit a pothole big enough to stop his 89 sporty and flip it, a full rotation “stoppy”, the bike landed on him and he broke his pelvis, his riding season ended abruptly. Good thing it was a low speed incident.
