I've seen some Irish hurl. It was quite impressive how much stuff some of them had in their gut before they hurled.

Not surprised Irish are good at hurling, Guinness must be one of the foulest tasting drinks ever made. I got some Irish in me but still can't stand the stuff!

ok. So they are trying to get the ref's attention-pathetic. I suspected that but also thought it might be a way to take a break. Grown men rolling around and carrying on because someone bumped into them is just silly. It sure detracts from the game. Sometimes I wondered why the whole stadium just didn't start LOL. Of course, I remember when NHL goalies didn't wear face masks and this could influence my opinion. I am not an NBA fan but I have read that they have issues with players taking dives, too. Guess it is not just soccer, but I don't think that it happens so often or with quite the drama from what I have seen on TV sports news.

You make it sound like it's all the players and just because someone bumped into them. Some of these collisions are every bit as hard as American football, with no padding. These athletes are some of the toughest and most athletic players in sports. Yes, a few do take dives, and I too think it's silly. Sorry for the rant.

Take a studs-up slide tackle to the lower leg and tell me how rugby you feel.

Have seen multiple leg breaks from that. Brutal. Or kicks to the face. Saw that earlier this season, too.

But, yes, lots of acting. Sometimes not always acting. Also, remember that delays add stoppaged time at the end of the half. The idea behind stoppage time is that there should actually be 45 minutes of soccer played, and the clock never stops. So any time there's a 'stop' in play, the clock goes on, and the official keeps track of the time and adds it onto the end of the regular 45 minutes--thus, stoppage time. I've seen anywhere from a minute to as many as six this season, but it could be more. And it's a 'minimum of' the stated stoppage time--there can be additional time added if there are delays during the stoppage time. So the flopping about and being a pile on the turf can be strategic vis-a-vis the clock.

Well the facts are this: Rugby and football split and became different games
because if you were working class and you got a serious injury your family starved.Whereas if you came from a wealthy background it didn't matter.
