Bought genuine so i could sort of guarantee build quality and accuracy!

At least it comes off easy compared to stock and as long as you know how far off it reads, it matters not really.
Now that I've had mine for some years, I glance at it every-now-and-then.

Recently put a Harley oil temp dipstick/gauge on mine. Bought a used oil tank for $10 that had a Harley gauge in it. Took it for a ride today, forgot to check the temp when I got home. A quick glance while at a stop light, appeared to be around 150. 67ish outdoor temp.

I went for a 120 mile ride today through the mountains and on the interstate. The ambient temperature went up to 80 degrees F. My oil temp went up to 220 degrees F and stayed there. I checked the oil when I got home and the level was the same. My 2005 XL883 Standard ran perfectly with the external crankcase breather. Tomorrow, I'm going to do it again and hope to get back home before the monsoons roll in for a few days.
Bike therapy. Gotta love it!

I know the engines are not the same but I learned you can lower or raise engine temps in the tuning alone.
Example: I used to have a 450 quad with a near nationals bulit engine. Talking 13:1 compression, single cylinder and water cooled. 180F was the target temp. A little rich it was a little lower, little lean it was higher.
I'm going to guess here with my 03 1200 my temps are atleast somewhat kept down due to pretty much perfect jetting along with the Dynatek 2ki ign module adjusted correctly. Mine only climbs over 200F on really hot days. But only maybe to 205F.
I strictly run VR1 dino. (50wt above 60F weather and 20w50 in cooler weather months). Call me a P.... But rides in 95F+ just suck. Helmet gets gross...best felt when you slip it back on after a decent hot ride....so I dont!
Thems my 3cents no one asked for

25 miles yesterday in 93 degrees. Not a lot of time at traffic lights and temp was around 190.

Monsoons are gone here and now we have temps in the upper 90's every day with very high humidity, placing the Heat Index well into the triple digits. If I can't ride in the early mornings, I don't go. I ride for pleasure, not pain.
