Default CV carb running way rich!

After a rebuild of this carb it wont even idle and black smoke coming out of the pipes. I set the mixture 2 turns out as a starting point and didn't touch the low screw at all. any ideas?!

Update! Needle in wrong! She runs fantastic after the fix!

Whenever I hear this issue I imeadiatly think of the needle jet being put in upside down. I know it happens (I have done it). It's the piece that sits above the emulsion tube. sportsterpedis.Should be covered in the carb section of

Or, it fell out and is missing. I agree with your comment!

Runs great even though the new float needle doesn't always seat well and overflow it goes!

Sometimes you need to bend the tang just a slight bit more to add enough pressure to keep the needle tight against the orifice... Micro adjustments are best to prevent too much the other way (which will give you a low float level)...

When the carb is off the bike, you can try lightly blowing thru the fuel line (into the carb) to see if the float valve is fully closing at the setting you select...

Like most things when it comes to specified settings, 99% work fine with the defined setting, but that other 1% needs a little tweaking... (don't you feel special to be part of the 1%... )

I got an in-correct needle once which threw the float setting way off

+1. The one in my kit was a different length, so I just "stuck" with the old one.
