Ok that’s weird....Do they not pull oil through the valve stems?
Sorry to derail your thread but curiosity and all that.

They do to some extent, but a little oil is desirable on the exhaust valve stems.

I dunno man maybe I’m missing something, just seems a whole lot easier to spray some carb cleaner or whatever else people use around the manifold area.
Propane works also without having spray carb cleaner. Use a propane tourch with a rubber hose end. Open up the torch and if your revs or dips, you have a leak. I did this method on my truck last week and found the leak pretty quick.

That's exactly what the service manuals tell you to do

Sounds like an extremely complicated method when a much simpler approach can be used.

Still, if you look over om your workbench and discover that you have a blanking plate for your carburetor sitting there next to the spark plug adapter for your air hose and you don't mind all that set up and tear down time, why not ?

I'm a bit surprised he didn't suggest having the bike underwater while doing this so you can see where the bubbles come from. I do that with my inner tubes.
