no movement and no problems so far 500 miles on it. Would love to see what the spiral ring looks like as I am still in the dark about that.

I couldn't get the stock clip installed, mangled it. Am buying e clips now, pretty sure I couldn't fit a washer under it either.

c & e clips are dangerous as they can come off, cir-clip is a better solution.
the old iron piston pin retainers were spiral rings
think of a key ring, tight coil.

Bustert, any way you can post a photo or link to what you are talking about? I haven't had any problems since installing the OEM clip but I remember I was not too confident with how it installed.

Interesting, I've heard others claim e clips are a much better solution than the stock clip? I'm still considering the Baker smooth shift kit but don't know what all is involved in the installation.

Figured out I didn't have the plate aligned correctly when installing the stock clip, put on a couple e clips but it still seemed to have some movement. Might try a couple more methods with a washer but also have a couple more stock clips along with some other parts from Ronnie's coming so probably just use a stock clip again.

The transmission needs to be removed for installation of the baker shift drum.
I went this route with mine, was not disappointed. The price would scare some away, but the star wheel is as secure as it can be.

Or you can modify the stock one which i should have done when i installed the sportgear.
what is bad about the cheesy hd retainer is it allows the plate to wobble which leads to the pawl pins walking out which now allows the plate to run off center and roller thrust usually forces the plate into the clutch.

I was considering a circlip like that if heavy and sized correctly combo'd with a washer should work better than the Harley clip or e clips
